ESA Technology Broker presents a brief overview of successful technology transfers

Files:

The ESA Technology Broker (ESA TB) project aims to increase the number and quality of knowledge and technology transfers from ESA's space programmes to non-space sectors, as well as from companies and universities working in the development of space technologies to other industrial areas outside the space sector. Brokers have at their disposal the ESA technology database, in which they look for solutions to the technological needs of companies to streamline their services or improve their products.

Since its launch in 2021, the brokers have worked with dozens of companies and have now prepared a brief overview of successful technology transfers. You can read about individual companies and how they have used space technologies in their business. It is worth mentioning, for example, the company Svarovski, s.r.o., which creates walking sticks for the blind and, using a laser sensor developed by ESA, can now measure the distance of objects and use vibrations or sound to warn the user of nearby obstacles. Another interesting example is the company FUN AIR, s.r.o., which managed to team up with Gianluca Caparra from ESA. Together, they used a self-learning algorithm to improve the altitude measurement of the aerial GPS, which will help with landings even in poor visibility conditions.

Other successful transfers can be found briefly described in the appendix or on the project website.
